European films [06 Jun 2008|01:58am]
I've decided that aside from catching up on episodes of some of the TV shows I haven't started watching, I will also watch European films. :) Das Leben der Anderen  (The Lives of Others) is the one I watched most recently (meaning last year :p). It's a really good movie. I liked it very much.

    So any suggestions? :)

A sad day for tennis [15 May 2008|08:34pm]
Justine Henin, the current world No. 1 female player, has just retired from tennis. She said she was exhausted already and felt like she already gave everything she has for tennis. She wants to start her life now as a woman (maybe being a wife, starting a family) and maybe study or travel.

Shucks! Justine is one of my favorites pa naman, if not my favorite. One of the reasons why I like her is because she's a small player but she plays really well against power players. And that amazing backhand! She's just 25 years old and she walked away from something she's really good at.

Oh well, if that's what she wants and if she'll be happy, yay for her. :)

Movie Game [28 Apr 2008|04:29pm]
Got this from Dio. :)

* Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
* Go to imdb and find a quote for each movie.
* Post them here for everyone to guess.
* Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it FIRST and the movie.
* No googling/using IMDB search functions.

1. The old dreams were good dreams; they didn't work out, but glad I had them.

2. After all... tomorrow is another day.

3. Oh, it's nobody's fault but my own! I was looking up... it was the nearest thing to heaven! You were there... An Affair to Remember (Tadz)

4. It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

5. How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! / The world forgetting, by the world forgot / (movie title) / Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd.

6. So instead of asking our young people, what are your plans? What do you plan to do with your life? Maybe we should tell them this: plan to be surprised.

7. When two people love each other, they come together - WHAM - like two taxis on Broadway.

8. I have to leave you now. I'm going to that corner there and turn. You must stay in the car and drive away. Promise not to watch me go beyond the corner. Just drive away and leave me as I leave you.

9. You have to do the best with what God gave you.

10. Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more. It's contrast.

11. Sometimes I wonder about my life. I lead a small life. Well, not small, but valuable. And sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it, or because I haven't been brave? So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn't it be the other way around? I don't really want an answer. I just want to send this cosmic question out into the void. So good night, dear void.

12. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.

13. It was the pain that had no name.

14. An innocent prisoner will become more angry by the hour due to the injustice suffered. He will shout and rage. A guilty prisoner becomes more calm and quiet. Or he cries. He knows he's there for a reason. The best way to establish guilt or innocence is non-stop interrogation. (for lack of a better quote in imdb)

15. True love lasts a lifetime.

[17 Mar 2008|05:50pm]
When I'm stressed, my mind goes haywire. I don't release it immediately. I try to suppress it for as hard as I can. I close my eyes. I clasp my hands. I talk to myself a bit. I put myself in an excruciating condition so that I won't hurt anyone (physically and emotionally) in the process. I try to relax myself until I numb myself to blankness.

It's just that I usually get stressed over the little things. And when I mean little, and when I mean things, I mean it literally.

Some people are just so inconsiderate.

And I hate being blamed for something I can't control.

Anyway, my head hurts. Don't want to think about it anymore.

friends [24 Feb 2008|09:52pm]
I was checking my multiply account when I realized that I have 201 contacts. This means, I have around 200 friends, of varying degrees of closeness. I don't have 400+ contacts like other people but 200 is already a large number and I'm quite proud that I have that many friends/acquaintances. With that large number, it's amazing that sometimes we feel like we don't have anyone to talk to. [I hate that the paragraph ended with a sad note. That was not my original intent. :)]

I'm thinking of making a MySpace account. I don't know why. I think I'm a bit bored. :) Anyway, who has an account? :)

The Culmination of Aussie Open [28 Jan 2008|07:18am]
I haven't watched the Australian Open since Sharapova defeated Henin in straight sets. The Sharapova-Jankovic game I deliberately missed for shopping. The Federer-Djokovic game, I missed because I forgot when it was scheduled. I accompanied Mom for errands and just found out the result from Dad when I got home. I also didn't bother to watch the Sharapova-Ivanovic match although I did see a bit of the awarding ceremony.

But last night, I watched. And I thought Djokovic was going to lose after the first set. But no, he didn't. He fought back. With the nail-biting 4th set, Novak Djokovic won! Tsonga was an amazing opponent. He could have won it himself. But it was Djokovic's tournament, right from the start.

During the awarding ceremony, I loved his speech. He's such a charismatic player. And he's so nice to his opponent, whether he wins or loses. Who could hate him? :)

Oh Happy Day! [24 Jan 2008|06:27pm]
It's always a happy day when you go out shopping. I finally found the black shoes I'm looking for. And I love it. I bought some tops, especially one that I didn't expect to buy. And undies! Weeeee! :) Oh, and two weeks ago, I bought this cutsee brown sandals that I wanted a year ago. Yay! My bank account is the only one that isn't happy. :(

I wouldn't have shopped too much if I knew that there were movie plans with Syete on Friday! Well... no, I probably still would. But now, I have no money! Oh well, gotta find a way. I wanna watch Sweeney Todd! (Oh Johnny Depp!) :)

By the way, Leng posted something about correct bra sizes. Most people wear the wrong bra size and it's important to wear the correct one. So, I will face the music and have my chest measured. Hmph! :( Where's a good place to do so? I mean, I don't want the joke time measuring ha. It's my self-esteem we're talking about here.

On a sad note:

Isn't it tragic that Heath Ledger is dead? And I think the conclusion, as of now, is that it was an accident. He was having terrible insomnia daw for months. He looks so scary pa naman in The Dark Knight (as the Joker). It makes us realize that we could just go anytime. When it's our time, it's our time. Carpe diem!

Oh! And Jelena Jankovic lost to Maria Sharapova. Hmph! There goes the dream for an all Serbian women's final. Oh well. I just realized that the most exciting games actually happened during the first week of the Aussie Open and not the second week when the famous players are playing.

More Aussie Open (Days 8 & 9) [22 Jan 2008|07:11pm]
Day 8's highlight was the Novak Djokovic vs. Lleyton Hewitt match. I was afraid in the beginning because I think this was Novak's first match with a seeded player. Plus, Hewitt is the hometown hero. But he won in straight sets. Yay! Novak is my choice for this year's Aussie Open champion.

Day 9 had Jelena Jankovic vs. Serena Williams. And I guess it was another day for the Serbians because Jankovic defeated the defending champion! I was rooting for her! :) Yay Jelena! But the night session's match was so disappointing. Justine Henin lost to Maria Sharapova in a very lop-sided game. Justine was not at her best. Not even that amazing one-handed backhand could save her. She was my choice pa naman for this year's champion! And with this loss, Maria Sharapova just ended Justine's 32-match winning streak.  :(

Former choices for champion: Djokovic, Henin
Today's choices: Djokovic, Jankovic (Or maybe Venus Williams? Or maybe even Radwanska? But an all Serbian win? That'll be cool. :p)

7 days of Aussie Open [21 Jan 2008|08:05am]
[If you are NOT a tennis fan, sorry! :D]

Since I'm not studying or working yet, I find comfort in knowing that I can watch the Australian Open for the whole 2 weeks it is on. Of course, I don't stay on the couch and watch the whole. That's very unhealthy. But at least, I get to watch the matches I like.

Day 1 was slightly uneventful except that Carlos Moya and Andy Murray were out by the first round. The most exciting match was the Jankovic-Paszek match. It was 2-6, 6-2, 12-10. I was only able to catch the 3rd round because Star Sports usually shows the matches in Rod Laver Arena before they go to the others. It was the most important round anyway. It was like Jankovic was going to be the first upset of the tournament. But she got back from 4-1 until 5-5, until 6-6. There are no tie breaks at the last set so from 6-6 they went to 7-7 and so on. Until Jankovic broke serve at 9-8, only to be broken back at 9-9. And then she held serve at 11-10 and eventually broke at 12-10.

Day 2 also uneventful. Everyone who was expected to win won.

Day 3's highlight was supposed to be the Sharapova-Davenport match but it wasn't as exciting as everyone thought it would be. Sharapova was playing at her best and Davenport was not so Sharapova dominated at 6-3, 6-1.

Day 4 had the Baghdatis-Safin match. I thought was gonna win but he didn't. They reached the fifth round though.

Day 5 had 2 major upsets. Casey Dellacqua, Australia's new home hero [since Alicia Molik was out by the 2nd round] won her match against Amelie Mauresmo, the 2006 Aussie Open champion. Mauresmo won the first round but after that Dellacqua was just playing remarkably. Second upset: Philipp Kohlschreiber beat Andy Roddick! I'm all for the underdog so I was rooting for Kohlschreiber [and he was the one who forced the loooong match vs. Djokovic in the US Open so I knew he had something] and lo and behold, he did win! Pretty exciting game reaching 5 sets!

Day 6 this was the day when people realized, hey, Roger Federer is human too. The people organizing the schedule must not have thought this, thinking he'd probably win easily and put his match against Tipsarevic as the last match for the Day Session at the Rod Laver Arena. They were so wrong to do that! Tipsarevic was defending like crazy! Federer scored with a lot of aces but Tipsarevic won most of the rallies. I knew Roger Federer was going to win but in the middle of the match, I was actually hoping Tipsarevic would win. So who won the Federer-Tipsarevic match, with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1, 10-8, Federer won. But wow! What a game!
Because of the 4 hour match between the two (they probably thought it was going to be only 2 hours), the night session matches were delayed. The V Williams-Mirza match started around 2 hours later than expected. Williams won. But the match of the night with Hewitt and Baghdatis ended at around 4am with Hewitt winning. I didn't watch the night session anymore because I was tamad na. :p
Oh! And how could I forget the biggest upset in Women's Singles? Agnieszka Radwanska, the same girl who defeated Maria Sharapova in the 2nd Round of the US Open 2007, beat no. 2 seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova in the 3rd Round of the Aussie Open. Wow!

Day 7 had 2 upsets. David Nalbandian, you know the guy who beat Roger Federer twice last year, was out by the 3rd Round because of Juan Carlos Ferrero [who I missed because he didn't play much towards the end of the year]. Nikolay Davydenko, ranked and seeded 4th, was beaten by fellow Russian Mikhail Youhzny. And Australia's hopes for an Aussie Open Australian female champion has died when Jelena Jankovic beat Casey Dellacqua in a 2 sets victory.

Haha! Today is the start of the second week of more Aussie Open action but I'm only looking forward to only 1 game today and that is the match between Aussie Lleyton Hewitt and Serbian Novak Djokovic. My choice: Djokovic, of course! :p

In Dani's house [12 Jan 2008|07:48pm]
[ mood | frustrated ]

I'm not making any sense.

Waaah! Si Trixee kasi eh. Well, I won't blame it on her. Sige... life kasi.

Basta, to make a long story short, I was super rushing to leave the house at an earlier time than I planned. So I arrived here (in Dani's house), less prepared and with a few things left at home. Ayoko pa naman ng ganun kasi I'm a person who really plans for everything so when I forget something, yun lang ang naiisip ko.

Oh well. Life.

Sana fun mamaya. Kanina tamad na tamad ako because of the rain.

I'm sleepy. I think it's raining again. Ho-hum.

freakin' dog [18 Dec 2007|06:30pm]
I was so happy this afternoon because it felt like my foot was getting better. Only the swollen part is a bit painful so I removed the bandage already.

Leave it to the dog to put me back in square one. I stretched a muscle and the bandage is back again.

And I was supposed to go Christmas shopping tomorrow! Hmph...

Tomorrow's gonna be a long day. Like really long.

pay it forward [12 Dec 2007|02:59pm]
I just watched a video clip from ABC Good Morning America. A woman, who wanted to do something nice for the day, was in a Starbucks drive thru. Her nice deed for the day was: she paid for the order of the person behind her. When it was the next person's turn, he/she found out that it was already paid for. Probably thinking that it would be a nice thing to do as well, he/she also paid for the next person's coffee. And guess what? This went on for 2 HOURS! It's kinda an expensive way to do something nice but it's still a nice thing to do and it could brighten up someone's day.

I wonder what nice deed I could tomorrow? :)

EB 2: I'm feeling the need for movies (an endless blab about movies - duh :p) [07 Nov 2007|07:44am]
I don't know if anybody knows this but one of my goals in life is watching all the movies in AFI's 100 Greatest Movies. [Okay, I know it's a mababaw goal but when you have a lot of more serious things in mind, you deserve a little kababawan, right? :)] Anyhoo, I've already watched... 29 of the 100 movies. And then I found out that I was basing my count on the 1998 list when today, there's already a 2007 list (of which I have already watched 31 of the 100 movies)! That's when I got all confused about which list to follow.

Of my 29 movies in the 1998 list, 4 have been removed from the 2007 list [namely, Dr. Zhivago, From Here To Eternity (which I love because I love Deborah Kerr), Amadeus, and Fantasia]. However, of my 31 movies in the 2007 list, 6 are new additions [namely, LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Shawhsank Redemption (one of my faves), All the President's Men, Titanic, The Sixth Sense, and Toy Story].

Anyway, I've decided to still follow the 1998 list. I'll still watch the replaced movies because some of them are such classics [like An American in Paris, Dances with Wolves, Fargo, Mutiny on the Bounty, Rebel Without a Cause and Wuthering Heights (Hail Lawrence Olivier)]. I'll just watch the addition to the 2007 list after I've completed the 1998 list or when I feel like it [some movies I would like to watch like Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, In the Heat of the Night, and Sophie's Choice (I do regret that I read spoilers for this movie! Grrr!)]

Here's my list of the next few movies that I'll watch to complete my list [I actually haven't watched in a while because I've been studying... Uuuiii... Haha!]
1. Lawrence of Arabia
2. On the Waterfront
3. Schindler's List [I saw my parents watch this before and I joined them. I watched 1 scene and left because I was bawling my eyes out.]
4. It's a Wonderful Life
5. Chinatown
6. The Maltese Falcon
7. To Kill a Mockingbird [Don't we just love Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday? Of course, this is a more serious movie but still... :)]
8. Rear Window
9. Taxi Driver
10. Vertigo
11. Dances with Wolves
12. Mutiny on the Bounty
13. Unforgiven
14. Bringing Up Baby

What I haven't watched is the number 1 movie in both 1998 and 2007 lists: Citizen Kane. Super hard to look for a copy. So if you know one, please tell me. :) I'm a sucker for old movies. Before, I actually thought I won't be able to watch them because some are in black and white but it's not that bad. :)

My favorite from the 29? Gone with the Wind. Haha! Actually, I like a lot of them but that's for another time. :)

Which new movie would I like to watch? Lions for Lambs. [I love Meryl Streep. :)]

Hai... [26 Oct 2007|01:26pm]
After staying home for the whole week when I could've very easily left for whatever since a lot of people are on their break this week, I am finally going out tomorrow and on Sunday. And dear me, I am also going out next week! Well, wala pa talaga akong plano for next week but whatever! With all the fighting and drama going on in this house, I am the poor loser who has to keep everyone afloat, fed and sane. Boooo! Anyway, I'm just happy na finally I'm getting out of here tomorrow. :D

Ang sakit sakit pa ng bibig/ngipin ko. I feel like my left cheek is swelling. :s

EB 1: I'm feeling the need for a food trip (an endless blab about food) [23 Oct 2007|10:42am]
At the top of my list is Italian cuisine.

1) I'd really like to try Al Dente (in Silver City Mall). Their thin crust pizza apparently has a secret ingredient that makes it different from other thin crust pizzas in the market. The food is affordable. Also, I haven't been to Silver City Mall so I really want to check it out.

2) I love breakfast. Hence, I want Heaven 'n Eggs.

3) Go back to Banapple. The first time I went there I had the Fettucine something. I was able to taste the Chicken Breast Parmigiana during Kat's birthday but next time, that's what I'll order. Also, I was able to taste a couple of their cakes but nex time, I want to give their Blueberry Cheesecake a try. (Trix wants one too.)

4) If you need a fancy catering service, I read Chef Cuisine is great. They offer different cuisines of your choice. Plus, I saw some pictures of their meals. They're absolutely scrumptious.

5) I'm planning to drop by Prioes Cafe and Resturant (at the corner of Fernwood Gardens) after the September practice in MJ's house (since she lives close to Fernwood). The food looks great and affordable. It also looks like the restaurant has a great ambience.

6) I don't really go to Manila that often but I'd really like to take a ride and drop by Crepe de Chine. I love crepes!

7) If I'm somewhere in Makati, very hungry and have only P100-P150 in my wallet, I'm heading to Sango! The Burger Master. They have delicious Japanese food and American burgers. You can be fed daw with less than P100!

8) If I'm feeling carnivorous, I want to try Steak M.D. (in Tomas Morato). Yeah, I haven't been. :)

9) Another all daybreakfast place is Butter Diner (in Araneta Center) but unlike Heaven 'n Eggs (which still keeps a Pinoy twist in their dishes), Butter Diner has more of an American style breakfast meals.

10) A cute classy place in Mall of Asia is Pink Pepper. Good food. Some dishes are afforable, while others are a bit more expensive but the restuarant is gorgeous. Makes you think of those Manhattan resturant in Sex and the City. I actually it's a nice 'date' place.

Writing about food makes me sooo hungry! And I ate breakfast just 3 hours ago!

more TV, etc. [11 Oct 2007|08:25am]
I just finished all 6 seasons of The Sopranos. It's a good thing I watched it when the series was already finished. I had an idea on how it would end with all the publicity they got over how people had mixed emotions on the finale. Personally, I have no complaints. Everyone has their own opinion on how it ended. Well, I have my own as well.

I'm not the only one watching that show in this house. Even my parents are watching it but I'm super advance na compared to them. Cursing in our house is now more tolerated because of that show. Usually, it is such a surprise when curses come out of my or Trixee's mouth. But now, not so much.

Before The Sopranos, I was watching Season 1 of Brothers and Sisters. Totally different mood from The Sopranos but I like it very much. I just stumbled on it on Studio 23 as I was channel surfing. I didn't even know the whole premise of the show but there was this scene which really just my tears going. Eek! Anyway, there's one thing similar about the 2 shows though. They're both about family, depicted in very different ways.

I officially have no more TV show DVDs to watch anymore. I'm not downloading anything. I like watching the whole thing continually, with no one week or several weeks delay. Anyway, I'll just wait for all the TV shows to end and then that's when I'll watch them.

I just read what Wengy said about not being happy yet unless things are actually official because we might jinx it. Haha! I used to not believe in the possibility of that happening. I've never been such a believer of signs, jinx, knocking on wood... stuff like that. I think things will just happen. Sometimes it goes your way. Sometimes, it doesn't and it usually happens when you least expect it. But nowadays, it seems like the jinx thing and the signs thing may not be so silly. It could really happen. Ha! You can imagine how horrible my mood is when things turn out to be jinxed. Believing in these things is not really all that bad. You're just being careful. No harm there.

allow me to be vague for a while [06 Sep 2007|04:35pm]
I cannot believe I am changing my mind again. 3 months into this thing and I'm back to square one. But I have a funny feeling that this might be it. Oh gosh. Am I really giving up? It's just so soon.

Anyway, I really want to talk to somebody about this (Well, I have... but I'm speaking more of someone I can talk to face to face. Hehe!). But then, I'm so indecisive. I get lost in my own problem.

A friend of mine won an invite (+1) to the Cosmo Bachelor Bash tonight by just emailing Us Girls last Sunday. Unfortunately, I'm not her +1. Haha! She was even allowed to choose her own bachelor. I wish dating's that simple... :p

:p [05 Sep 2007|02:14pm]
I'm sorry. I keep on talking about tennis. I just love it!

What a night in NY! Everyone though the S. Williams vs. Henin match was the game of the night but they were so wrong. The games before and after them were more exciting. Djokovic was totally losing it vs. Monaco but he won in the end. Henin won the game vs. Serena. They weren't playing at their best for sure. I mean, sure it was a close game during the first set but there was no power in the game. You could feel their nerves, both of them! In the second set, Henin was better at managing her nerves and won the game. I guess they just got so wrapped up with all the hype people put on them that it just got to them. Best game was the Nadal vs. Ferrer match. One of the many upsets of the US Open because no. 2 seeded Nadal lost. But Ferrer was just amazing. He really had the fire in him and the belief that he could win that Nadal totally did not have. I just hate seeing Nadal lose because you just feel so sorry for him.

Yun lang.
